Burlesque Queen Dita Von Teese stole the show, in our opinion, at the 2012 British Fashion Awards last night. The retro beauty arrived at the Savoy Hotel, London in a Jenny Packham gothic inspired, full length black gown, in striking stark contrast to her perfect porcelain skin. Dita’s lavish dress featured a suggestive plunging neckline, square cut shoulders and stunning intricate beading detail. Paired with her signature rolled, jet black hair, vamp red lips and coordinating nails the pin up princess out classed the majority of her classmates. A++ Miss Von Teese!
Tabloids revelled in Kelly Brook’s newest venture as a burlesque dancer with the famous Crazy Horse Troupe this week, as she became the most recent celebrity to channel the art of erotica. A whole host of stars have embraced the art form in recent years, incorporating the art of the tease into an array of music videos, performances and costumes. Check out our run down of the stars who love burlesque;
The queen of quirkiness – Lady Gaga – is a well known lover of burlesque, starting out as performer in New York clubs and often incorporating erotic striptease into her concert routines. The singing superstar’s wardrobe is a virtual homage to burlesque, with a new age, neo burlesque twist.
Katy Perry has been papped many a time sporting a range of burlesque inspired retro hairstyles, whether in pastel pink or mint green, the California Gurls singer is rarely without her glamorous ringlets. Her red carpet appearances and gig get ups have also channeled a retro feel on many an occasion, evoking the Hollywood glamour style with a modern, quirky, Katy edge.
Another star who has performed regularly with the Crazy Horse dancers is former Baywatch star Carmen Electra. An original member of the Pussycat Dolls, the curvy star reprised her role with the group for a special one off performance last year. Happy to return to her roots whenever asked, showing her love for the art form in some eye popping outfits.
Hotel heiress and most famous of party girls, Paris Hilton, may be lacking in curves but more than makes up for it with her wardrobe – and confidence! The blonde ‘hot’ celeb chose the burlesque theme for her 30th Birthday bash, arriving in a bejewelled red corset and matching bustle. Miss Hilton has also performed in her own burlesque show at the famous Pussycat Lounge in Las Vegas, dancing and singing with a martini glass finale.
Pussycat Dolls Lead Singer/ X Factor Judge / Future Mrs Hamilton – Nicole Scherzinger oozes glamour and sex appeal with her stunning curves, amazonian dark hair and eyes, but does not come from a burlesque background like her girl band colleagues. The ‘one with the voice’ has embraced the burlesque genre many a time, giving all others a run for their money. Most memorable was her show-stopping performance in the burlesque themed ‘Watcha Think About That’ video strutting her stuff in a lavish underbust corset and matching jewelled bra. More recently the star donned a red latex corset, matching opera length burlesque gloves and black fishnet stockings to attend X Factor contestant Rylan’s Halloween themed birthday bash. Apparently she was supposed to be a vampire….?
With the ideal figure for burlesque, even Kim Kardashian gave it a go last year in Las Vegas, despite her questionable dance ability, the most successful US reality star looked rather gorgeous in her specially designed burlesque outfits.
Goodbye Disney, hello corsets, suspenders, stockings and basques. Christina Aguilera has come a long way since the Mouseketeers with the burlesque theme running through her entire career from the Lady Marmalade video, ‘Dirrty’ bra and chaps ensemble to performing in LA with the Pussycat Dolls dance troupe and winning the lead in the 2010 film ‘Burlesque’. The lady has skills..
Our predictions for the next stars who will embrace the burlesque bubble…? Little Mix, Nicki Minaj, Cheryl Cole and Rihanna. Come on ladies, join the oh so glamorous party.♥

Dita Von Teese arrived in London this week to perform at the Arts Club in Mayfair – and promised there would be more to come for the capital. The burlesque queen performed two of her signature routines – the fan dance and the bath tub dance – enthralling guests including a certain Lady Gaga.
Her famous bath tub extravaganza features a black roll top bath, on which the performer perches while turning on the shower for an erotic soaking. The most famous burlesque dancer then takes a dip in her bath, teasing the audience with a ballet trained leg.
Dita later tweeted that she was looking to bring her ‘Strip Strip Hooray’ show to London soon.
Lover of all things theatrical, Lady Gaga, turned up to watch the show in a wedding-esque gown and mini veil – on anyone else we would think it bizarre – but Gaga pulls it off.
Inspired by the glamour of Dita Von Teese and Lady Gaga? Head over to the website and check out our burlesque clothing category, packed with retro pieces to create your own unique look to rival the stars…

The Summer is always a busy time for our burlesque clothing department as more and more newbies take up the wonderful art form in celebration of hen nights and birthdays. June has not disappointed with a colourful selection of items selling well, that are spread across the various categories, reflecting the (sometimes absent) Summer sunshine.
Number 3 on our best selling list comes from our burlesque hats collection and is a delicate, wedding-worthy rather gorgeous fascinator. The Leg Avenue Blossom Fascinator features a large pink flower with black feather accent and secure metal clip. Striking, yet elegant and perhaps a little Kate Middleton-esque, the perfect fascinator head piece for the Summer months.
The super duper ever so regal Leg Avenue Purple Glitter Pumps shoot up the list to number 2 this month. Playing a starring role in our burlesque shoes collection, these show-stopping lovelies feature an all over purple glitter design with contrast white scalloped trim and black bow accent. At 5 inches in height with a 1 inch platform these unusual posh purple shoes will lengthen the leg, flatter the figure and make a pin up style strut a whole lot easier.
The best selling item for the month of June and an eternally popular garment from our burlesque corsets collection is the Leg Avenue Scarlett Corset. Featuring traditional and seductive black bodice with red decor, this deluxe boned corset with side zipper and adjustable lace up back is beautifully adaptable to an array of burlesque outfits. The lavish satin bow accents and lace trim evoke luxury and style, paired with the matching bustle skirt for the ultimate glamorous pin up look.
